Cade's Week — A Quick Recap

A short read on the week that was, so nothing gets lost between tournaments.

The headline

A good week. Two mat sessions and a dual, and the setups are starting to look automatic — his double landed a couple of times on kids who'd have stuffed a cold shot. The bottom is coming; his stand-up is better but he still gets ridden when he's tired.

What we worked on

  • Setups — hand-fight to the shot and chain wrestling. Shooting off a reaction now instead of cold.
  • Bottom — stand-ups. Scored an escape in the dual instead of getting ridden the whole period.
  • The third period — grind rounds. He kept attacking when he was gassed in the last go — exactly the mindset we're building.

What stood out

The set-up takedown in the dual. He hand-fought, snapped the head, and shot the double into the hole it opened — on a kid who'd stuffed him before. A month ago that shot gets sprawled on.

For next week

  • Keep the setup reps first, before he's tired.
  • One match where he commits to a stand-up every single time he's on the bottom.
  • A grind round or two to keep building the third-period gas.

One thing to keep an eye on: does he set up his shots or shoot them cold, especially when he gets tired? And when the third period gets hard, does he keep attacking or start surviving? Those are the tell for everything else.
