Diego’s letter

A real one, built for one martial arts kid from everything the parent had shared. Nothing here is demo copy.

Letter to Diego

Hey Diego —

Here's the picture of what you're building this season.

You're powerful and athletic — a strong kick, real explosiveness, and no fear. That's the hardest part of martial arts to build, and you already have it. So let's be clear about what this season is actually about: it's not more power. It's about turning the power you've got into precision — sharp forms, smarter sparring, and staying controlled when it counts.

What you're doing well

  • Your kick is genuinely powerful and explosive. That's real, and it's rare.
  • You're fearless in sparring — you get after it and you go for the big technique. Most kids hold back; you don't.
  • You're disciplined, and you'll grind the boring stance and form work, which is why your forms are sharpening up.
  • Your forms are starting to score higher, because sharp and controlled beats fast and powerful.

One thing to focus on this week

Sharp, not fast. Here's the secret about forms: the judges aren't scoring how hard or how fast you go — they're scoring precision. A deep, held stance. A technique that snaps crisply and stops with a clear beginning and end. Clean lines. Control. When you rush, all your power turns into a blur, and a blur loses to a clean, controlled form even if it's less powerful. So slow down and make every technique sharp — chamber it, snap it, stop it, hold your stances. A sharp form looks powerful and controlled. That's what wins.

Keep going

The stance work, the forms in slow motion, the combinations, the footwork — none of it is glamorous, and going slow when you'd rather go fast is hard. It doesn't feel like it's adding up. It is. The martial artist who's winning next season is the one who got sharp this year. You already have the power. This season is about the precision that turns it into points. Keep going.
