Maya's Week — A Quick Recap
A short read on the week that was, so nothing gets lost between meets.
A good week. Several practices and a dual meet, and the pacing is starting to look real — she negative-split a distance event instead of dying at the end. The walls are coming; she's sharp when fresh but gets lazy on turns when she's tired.
- Pacing — negative-split sets. She's learning what a controlled first half feels like.
- The walls — turns and underwaters. Sharp early in a set, still popping up lazy when tired.
- Stroke under fatigue — hold-it-together. Kept her stroke longer on the back half than she used to.
The negative-split race at the dual. She went out controlled — almost too easy — and brought it home faster, passing kids who'd gone out ahead. A few months ago that's a fast first 50 and a death march.
- Keep the pacing focus front and center — the biggest time-drop she's got.
- One race or set where she commits to a real turn and kick-out on every single wall, even tired.
- Streamline holds and core at home a couple of times.
One thing to keep an eye on: does she go out controlled or blow out the first half? Are her walls sharp even when tired? And does her stroke hold together at the end? Those are the tell for everything else.
