Ella's Week — A Quick Recap

A short read on the week that was, so nothing gets lost between games.

The headline

A good week. Two wall sessions and a game, and the reverse stick is starting to look real — she received and hit off it under pressure instead of panicking. Receiving on the move is coming; she still traps it dead when she's tired.

What we worked on

  • The reverse stick — receiving and hitting off the wall. Way more comfortable on her left than a month ago.
  • Receiving on the move — lead and receive. Better going forward, still flat-footed when rushed.
  • Reading the field — scan and switch. She read a switch early in the game and got there first — exactly the habit we're building.

What stood out

The reverse-stick outlet in the game. A defender forced her left, and instead of a turnover she received on the reverse and hit a switch across the field. A month ago that's a lost ball.

For next week

  • Keep the reverse-stick reps first, before she's tired.
  • One game where she commits to playing out of every ball she's forced left on.
  • A pre-game both-sides wall warmup before Saturday.

One thing to keep an eye on: when a rep asks for her reverse, does she do it, or sneak it back to her open side? Does she receive on the move or trap it dead? And does she look up before the ball arrives? Those are the tell for everything else.
